Character Creation Guide
Welcome, friend. Shape yourself and live.
First off welcome! (Or welcome back.) The purpose of this guide is obviously to make character creation easier for everyone, as we have a somewhat unusual tabletop-inspired system to go along with traditional posting. If you follow this guide step-by-step you'll be ready to play in no time.
I. Registration
We operate on a one-character-per-account system, so your first step is to make a new account for your new character. If you're already logged in on a different account, you can find a "Register" button in the navigation bar. Your display name should be your character's call name, as your surname will be the same as whatever clan you are from. It should be noted that you don't HAVE to have an out-of-character account, but you're welcome to do so if you'd like. You can find an account-switcher button on the bottom right of the screen if you want to change back and forth.
II. Filling Out Personal Info
The next step once you've registered is to fill out your profile info! Some of these first few fields you see when you go to edit your profile will apply to your user information, rather than the character. If you're confused about what applies to who, please feel free to ask, but it should be fairly straightforward.

Field Name | Description |
Avatar | The page to edit this is the very first thing you see when you log in. Our max avatar dimensions are 400 x 170px. (Weird, I know.) |
Display Name | This is the name that will be displayed for this profile throughout the forum. Please don't include your character's surname here, just their call name. |
Email | Your email should already be filled in here because you have to enter it to register. You can choose who is allowed to see your email in the "Privacy" tab. |
Password | Your password should already be filled in here because you have to enter it to register. |
Gender | This is the default gender field for Proboards, which we've mostly hidden around the forum. You can choose to hide it completely in the "Privacy" tab. |
Location | Pretty straightforward! You can enter your location if you want. |
Website Name | If you have a website that you would like to plug, you can enter the name here. |
Website URL | Enter the URL that matches your website here. |
Most Recent Status | Is you'd like some cute text displayed under your name on your profile page you can enter it here. |
Signature | Enter whatever you'd like to see displayed under your posts here. It does support BBcode. |
Personal Notes | If you'd like to save some personal notes for yourself you can enter them here. No one can see them. |
User Pronouns | This is our replacement for proboard's default gender picker. If you don't see your pronouns, just shoot an admin a message and we'll add them! |
Played By | If you have a parent OoC account, you can link it here using [a*href="*user page url here*"]Your name[/*a]. Make sure you delete the asterisks! |
Tracker URL | If you have a tracker for the character, you can paste the link into this field. |
Character Information
Field Name | Description |
Character Birthday | Enter the day your character was born here. We move in real time, so pick the actual day that corresponds with how old they are. |
Profession | Profession may match your character's class, or it may not. An alchemist can also work as a baker, but a scout can also just be a scout. |
Gender Identity | This is the gender field for your character. Everyone is encouraged to select the gender that most matches their character's heart and mind. If you're not sure what one of the options means, you can read more about them here. If you don't see an option that you want, you can suggest more in the suggestions board. |
Character Appearance
Field Name | Description |
Height | How tall is your character? Most mice are between 2 in - 7 in tall, not counting tails. |
Weight | How heavy is your mouse? This varies widely, but usually won't be more than a few ounces. |
Coat | All you need here is a brief description of your character's coat texture and color. You're welcome to deviate a little from your clan's suggested look if you like - the descriptions are more suggestions than rules. |
Markings | You can just give a brief description of markings here. If you want a marking that doesn't naturally occur in rodents, it will have to be painted or dyed on. |
Eyes | Give a brief description of your character's eye shape and color! You're can go buckwild here, but note that most mice have brown, black, or pink eyes. |
Physical Description | This is the place to get really crazy about your mouse's look! If you're struggling to reach the 100 word requirement, try adding in features like their body language, scent, voice, expressions, and accessories. |
Reference URL | If you have a reference image of your character, paste the URL into this field. Maximum dimensions on character references are 900px x 500px. |
Reference Credits | If someone made this reference for you (Or hey, if you made it yourself) you should credit them in this field. This field supports BBcode, so you can link to their art page too! |
Extras
Field Name | Description |
Personality | Personality is vital to getting your character accepted, so be sure this is filled out before you apply. The minimum word requirement here is 200 words. If you're having a hard time filling it out, think about how your character relates to the world around them. Do they have a specific goal? Fears? How do they react to friends, family, or frustrations? |
Inventory | You don't have to do anything with this field to be accepted, but it's strongly recommended that you keep good track of your character's items and where/when they got them. You get four items for free when you make a new character, but if you don't enter them before being accepted you don't get them. This field allows BBcode so that you can style your stuff and make it all nicey-nice if you'd like. |
History | This is another one that is required to be accepted, with a minimum of 100 words. If you're struggling to meet the requirement, try breaking your character's life down into chunks. How did they spend their puphood? What was their summer like? The season that they fell in love, or the autumn their father died? |
III. Character Application
Once your profile is finished, you'll head on over to the Character Creation board! You can find the character application code here as well as instructions on what to do with it. The short version is, you'll post it (filled out), in a new thread whose title is the name of the character. Try to give staff at least 36 hours to review and reply to it please!
Here's an example of what the character application will look like, along with some quick descriptions of the different fields.
DUMPSTERTRUCK JAMESON WRINKLEBERRY
eat more grapes
I. Played By: Grumblefort
II. Class: Horticulturist
III. Starting Skills
Every new character gets 4 skills, in addition to their free passive ability, when they are created. You can read more about skills in the skill thread, but the general gist of it is that they will define what your character knows how to do. If you don't claim all 4 skills when you make your character, you won't get them.
IV. Starting Items
Every character gets 4 free items when they are created - what you get depends upon what class your character happens to be.
If you don't claim all your free items when you post your application, you won't get them.

IV. Start Playing!
Once your character has been accepted and sorted into all the appropriate garbage, it's time to get in there! We strongly encourage jumping in on open threads with other folks so that you can start getting to know folks and making friends, but you can also start your own thread (awesome) or start a quest (super awesome!) Have fun y'all.
