Newbie Guide
Welcome aboard! There's a lot to read when you've first joined a site, so we've tried to collect a nice little checklist of lists to check when you sign on with us. We're really excited to roleplay with you!
I. Read our rules!Welcome aboard! There's a lot to read when you've first joined a site, so we've tried to collect a nice little checklist of lists to check when you sign on with us. We're really excited to roleplay with you!
An obvious firsty, you'll want to check out the site rules to get a general rule of what we expect from our users, to make sure that the Waterwheel will be a good fit for you!
II. Read up a little on the universe.
While you're in the almanac, it's a good idea to check out some other worldbuilding guides to help you come up with some character ideas. The most important threads to take a peek at are probably going to be The Mice of the Waterwheel and Character Classes, both of which will give you a picture of what the mice are like. There's a lot more to look at in the Almanac that could come in handy to you, but it's not necessary to read or memorize all of it right now.
III. Make your character!
Once you've familiarized yourself with the universe a little it's time to make your character! There's a more thorough guide on how to go about that here, but the short version is that you'll fill out your user profile with the relevant information and then post a character application in the appropriate board. It should be no more than 36 hours before a staff member will look at your character application and let you know if it's accepted!
IV. Get roleplaying!
Once your character has been accepted, you can get started posting! We do recommend that when you're first starting out, you stick close to the colony where it's safer. If you're not sure what to do, try joining in on an existing open thread, starting your own, or trying a quest!
V. Contribute to the site?
Once you've gotten comfortable and spent some time with us, why not help us make the site better? We're always interested in hearing suggestions from our users. Got an idea for a quest? An item? A skill? Please let us know! You can also keep an eye on the announcements to see if we're hiring staff, or yaknow whatever!
