BARELY PAST SUNRISE, THE SKY had shed its pinks and purples in favor of soft shades of blue. The red sun had donned its cheery golden yellow for the day as it climbed toward its peak, rays filtering through wisps of clouds to dapple the grass below.
Bags rest heavy under Carrot's eyes as his steps dragged his tired body forward, shoulders low and gaze half-lidded as he glanced across the crystal waters of the river from his place alongside its pebbled bank. The twine twisted about his hand still weighed light, pack empty and waiting to be filled.
Striped red fur ruffled under cool morning breeze, the air crisp and fresh with the scent of autumn. The wind tasted of rain, the gray color gloomy clouds looming in the distance scraping toward the earth in show of yet distant storm. If any gathering was going to be done before the rain hit, it would have to be done quickly.
Carrot paused in his steps, hands pressing to his sides as he bent backward, his spine giving a noisy pop as it snapped its trail of bones firmly into place. The buck breathed out softly, shoulders loosing as he further examined his surroundings. His ears stood tall, eyes focused as he turned his attention upward, certain to check the sky for any signs of danger as well.
" Morning, " he greeted roughly, having taken notice of the nearby forager.
His bloodshot gaze fell from the blue sky overhead, turning to center itself in Buckwheat's direction. His voice was hoarse.
